Mohamed graduated from the Alexandria Faculty of Medicine in 1995. He completed his ophthalmology residency and attained his Master degree in December 2000. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2004, and completed his PhD thesis at the Alexandria University in 2006. He was appointed as a Lecturer of Ophthalmology in Alexandria University in 2006, then he was promoted to Associate Professor of Ophthalmology in 2015. Mohamed was appointed a full Professor in 2020.

Besides his academic achievements, Mohamed is a Consultant in cornea and external eye diseases at the Alexandria Main University Hospital. He has over 100 presentations in national and international conferences and over 30 scientific publications in peer reviewed journals. He is one of the pioneers in Egypt in the field of lamellar keratoplasty particularly deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) and Descemet’s membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK). He established the first national Osteo-odonto-keratoprosthesis (OOKP) service in Egypt, after receiving training at the Sussex Eye Hospital, and helped many desperate patients with end-stage corneal blindness. He is a regular contributor at many courses and congresses in Egypt and worldwide. In addition to his work in Egypt he did a one-year sabbatical as a locum consultant at the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust in 2017-2018. This year Mohamed has joined the National Treatment Center, Highlands as a part-time consultant, beside his work in Alexandria University.
